PARTNERING

We Are Stronger Working with You

We proudly partner with lawyers from companies and other organizations who share our values. Working together, we can better provide the resources and support to those who need help the most. One of our partners said it best: “I would say to any other organization thinking about partnering, definitely just jump in with both feet and do it.”

Interested in joining us? Let’s discuss ways that, together, we can expand access to justice for those in need. Contact Pro Bono Counsel Nura Maznavi or any Jenner & Block lawyer, and let’s make a difference together.

Life-Altering Experiences in Pro Bono Partnerships

For several years, Jenner & Block has been collaborating with McDonald’s Corporation and the National Immigrant Justice Center in achieving asylum for several pro bono clients. Hear from Jenner & Block Partner Wade Thomson, Senior Counsel at McDonald’s Jane Mansell, Stephanie Hipp, and Pauline Levy, and NIJC Executive Director Mary Meg McCarthy on how pro bono partnering can make a big impact on the lives of all involved.

Working with NIJC and Firm Clients to Help DACA Recipients

While we have been fighting for several years in a high-profile legal battle to preserve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, we are at the same time helping individual DACA recipients renew their status under the program and helping others apply for the first time.

At a virtual clinic in May, we teamed up with lawyers from our client Aon. After receiving training from the National Immigrant Justice Center, each Jenner & Block lawyer teamed up with a lawyer from Aon to provide counseling to DACA recipients and prepare their renewal applications. We submitted 12 applications, all were approved by the United States Center for Immigration Services, and the individuals can now remain in the United States to complete their studies and/or provide for their families without fear of deportation. The Jenner & Block team included Partners Caroline Meneau, David Singer, Emily Chapuis, April Otterberg, Jan Larson, David Greenwald, Brian Scarbrough, Howard Symons, and Miwa Shoda, and Department Counsel Michael Werner.

In July, we collaborated with lawyers from our client BMO Harris, the United Way of Metro Chicago, and the NIJC to offer help for first-time DACA applicants through the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago. Partner Andrew Vail, who serves as general counsel of the UWMC, organized the clinic. The Jenner & Block team included Partners Angela Allen, Nicole Allen, Benjamin Bradford, Shoba Pillay, Megan Poetzel, Michael Ross, and Erin Schrantz and Associate Amit Patel, who teamed up with lawyers from BMO Harris to help each applicant.

And in October, we partnered with lawyers at our client Marriott to conduct another DACA Renewal Clinic with the National Immigrant Justice Center. After training from the NIJC, teams of Jenner & Block and Marriott lawyers met virtually with their clients to complete DACA renewal applications. The clinic benefited DACA recipients, their families, friends, employers, colleagues, and communities. The Jenner & Block team was led by Partners Lindsay Harrison and Alex Trepp and included associates Vaughn Olson, Illyana Green, Claire Lally, Sati Harutyunyan, Sheila Kailus, Alisa Murphy, Laurel Raymond, Chris Sheehan, Johanna Oh, Andrew Sullivan, Cathy Doyle, Karthik Reddy, and Samuel Ungar.

DACA Clinic held in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago, the National Immigrant Justice Center, BMO Harris, and the United Way of Metro Chicago.

Collaborating with FOX to Support Small Business Owners

In July, Jenner & Block lawyers partnered with Fox Corporation lawyers to give presentations at a Small Business Legal Academy sponsored by Bet Tzedek. The presentations covered entity formation, contract basics, and intellectual property and were made to a group of more than 100 small business owners. Bet Tzedek, a non-profit law firm committed to providing free legal aid to Angelenos in need, and the Office of Supervisor Holly Mitchell were instrumental in making sure small business owners of Los Angeles County were given the opportunity to hear valuable information and a chance to register for follow-up consultations. The dedicated team handled roughly 12 consultations and were able to direct small business owners to additional legal and community resources.

Partner David Singer led the matter along with Partners Mike McNamara, Christopher Lindsay, Julie Shepard, and Emily Chapuis

Why partner with Jenner & Block on pro bono efforts?

Jenner & Block is a pro bono leader, with connections to deserving clients and qualified referring organizations. We are experienced in every aspect of pro bono – from creating and providing training programs to experience in a wide variety of litigation and transactional matters.

What kind of time commitment does pro bono service take?

It depends on the matter, and can range from half a day of work to dozens of hours, depending on your level of involvement in the matter. Opportunities can be identified and tailored according to your availability and preference.

What kind of pro bono clients could I serve?

The types of clients and their needs are as far reaching as the law itself. For example, Jenner & Block has helped people secure asylum after fleeing from persecution. We have helped free wrongly accused clients from prison and secured pardons for others.
